- Freshpet® to Host Run/Walk in Liberty State Park
to Help Benefit Canine Cancer Research -
Tri-State area dogs and dog guardians are joining together for Freshpet® Bark for the Cure™, a five kilometer run/walk and morning of activities for the whole family that will take place Saturday, May 9th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. The event will raise money and awareness for canine cancer research. All proceeds will benefit The Freshpet® Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization, whose mission is to support canine nutritional research in the areas of prevention, care and treatment of diseases in dogs, including cancer.
Dogs and dog lovers who would like to take part in Bark for the Cure™ can register at BarkfortheCure.com. To participate, registrants are asked to donate $20 per person ($25 if they register on the day of the event; children under 10 are free) and $1 for dogs. Participants can raise additional funds through the website by sending customized emails to their friends and family seeking donations.
The run will be followed by a FREE Canine Celebration for dogs and their guardians. Post-event festivities will kick off with an awards ceremony for the top fundraisers and continue with Frisbee and agility course exhibitions, a search-and-rescue dog demonstration, as well as exhibits including Freshpet® fresh dog food sampling stations and local pet and human products and services.
Bark for the Cure™ was created by Freshpet®, the only US manufacturer of fresh, refrigerated food for dogs. The all-natural food is made from human-grade meats and vegetables, and contains no by-products, fillers, wheat gluten, corn, or preservatives. All of the major ingredients are locally-sourced near the company’s plant in Quakertown, Pennsylvania.
“At Freshpet we believe that good nutrition leads to a healthier life for our companion animals,” said Scott Morris, co-founder of Freshpet®. “More research is needed in the area of prevention and treatment of disease and the role nutrition plays. The purpose of Bark for the Cure™ is to truly make a difference and improve the knowledge around cancer and other diseases in dogs.”
Bark for the Cure™ is raising funds to further canine cancer prevention and treatment. The grants will fund comparison studies and clinical trials to help dogs lead longer and healthier lives. The Freshpet® Foundation is extremely proud to help make progress in the fight against canine cancer knowing that the learnings are often reciprocal with human disease.
